The wolf at the door
Article Abstract:
Muslims and Serbs are killing each other in the Balkans, which may be about to explode again. Kosovo was long the place everyone cried wolf about and is home to a guerilla group called the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). Now the 92% of the population that is Albanian Muslim has exploded. Reportedly a dozen villages were shelled by the Serbs in the Kosovo Drenica region. The region, a small part of the former Yugoslavia, is historically rebellious. It has an area of 1200 sq km with 60,000 inhabitants. At least 12 villages in the region reportedly have been shelled by the Serbs. In 1992 George Bush warned Serbia that military action in Kosovo would bring military response.

Warlord nation
Article Abstract:
Afghanistan is being carved up by rival warlords, and even UN and other aid agencies for the most part refuse to provide aid until some sort of law and order are established. It was in this sort of vacuum of power that the Taliban emerged, after the defeat of the Soviets in 1992, when the Taliban were welcomed for putting an end to the atrocities committed by rival warlords. Although the US is not eager to supply US troops to maintain order, anarchy in Afghanistan could allow Osama bin Laden to continue to thrive.

In Kosovo, fear and hunger
Article Abstract:
NATO estimates there are 820,000 Albanians in Kosovo cut off from food and supplies by Serb forces. Ethnic Albanians trapped in Kosovo are under constant fear of brutality from the Serb military. Serb merchants refuse to sell food to Albanians. The last normal harvest in Kosovo was in 1997, before war and the destruction of granaries by Serb troops disrupted the food supply.
