Article Abstract:
Ornamental kitchen gardens, called potagers fleuris in France, can involve all of the senses when one can move about the living displays. The character of the nation is reflected in the grooming of its gardens. The French gardens represent the country from the middle ages up to the present. The gardens visited were sometimes stunningly beautiful, other times humble and practical.
