ME unfazed by prospect of taking on challengers
Article Abstract:
The Montreal Exchange (ME) has relaunched itself in a new role as a niche player in the derivatives market. The exchange is planning to create futures contracts linked to stocks and other indexes. ME already offers innovative products such as the three-month Canadian banker's acceptance futures contract and Government of Canada bond futures contracts. It is also the preferred market by investors who hedge against changes in short-term Canadian interest rates.

La Cache couple has designs on U.S. expansion
Article Abstract:
La Cache, a Montreal, Quebec-based chain of flower-patterned linens and clothing, has expanded south of the border. Owned by Chris and April Cornell, the 71-store chain is expected to generate sales of $70 million to $75 million in 1999. The Cornells are also into manufacturing and wholesaling, which is even expanding faster than the retail operations. The current expansion thrust will bring the number of stores to 80 by the end of 1999.
