A man who lives near Grant's tomb was delighted to discover that a guest book is kept there for visitors. The entries run from the self-serving to the noble. Many are from foreign visitors. Some people simply lament the lack of toilets while others congratulate a noble gesture by the US.

Henry Mitchell MacCracken established a Hall of Fame in the Bronx a century ago to honor individuals of great achievement. His museum has financial troubles today and has few visitors. Meanwhile, other halls of fame that merely honor celebrity are thriving.
