Franchising into the nineties
Article Abstract:
The 1988 Nation Westminster Bank-British Franchise Association (BFA) study, which surveyed the franchising industry, reveals that franchising continues to be a viable business opportunity for franchisors and franchisees. The survey shows an estimated 84% of all franchises currently come within the meaning of a business format, and there are a total of almost 16,000 franchises that are part of the business format system overall. The picture of franchising in five years appears to be positive. The chief element in growth is the significant rise in unit turnover which has averaged 22% after inflation adjustment between 1987 and 1988 for those responding to the survey for both years.
