Bill Rodgers, 51, a four-time winner of both the Boston Marathon and the New York City Marathon, is now dedicated to setting new records for runners over 50. To keep in shape, Rogers runs 90 miles a week, mostly in the morning. He said he always wanted to be a runner. He has been running for more than 30 years.

Car airbags save thousands of lives every year but their tremendous force sometimes ends up killing small adults and children. Several manufacturers are working on new airbag designs that use equipment such as video cameras, microprocessors and infra-red light to adjust inflation pressure.

In praise of vanilla

Pure vanilla extract and vanilla beans are a wonderful flavoring for poultry, vegetables and seafood as well as desserts. Different varieties of beans are described. Recipes include vanilla waffles with vanilla syrup, tarragon-vanilla roast chicken and vanilla-glazed acorn squash.
