DIY super: how does your fund measure up?
Article Abstract:
Do-it-yourself, or self-managed, superannuation funds for retirement are a topic frequently covered in 1998 when Australians meet with their accountants at the end of the tax year. It is hard to get data on performance of small funds of retirement money because under some circumstances the fund is not required to account for unrealized capital gains as a trustee company or regular fund manager would. There are some criteria for deciding whether a fund should be set up by an individual or couple.

Crunch time for baby boomers
Article Abstract:
Baby boomers have enjoyed much financial success, but many have not saved enough to enjoy the same lifestyle in their retirement years. It is estimated that almost 30% of Australia's baby boomers expect their retirement years to be financed by private pension. Experts contend that persons above the age of 45 should have at least $120,000 in savings. Those above 55 need $630,000 to support themselves on a budget of $25,000 a year.
