The rise in price/earnings ratios and dividend yields indicate value is returning to the sharemarket. Investors however are still uncertain about the world economy. Investors must learn how to look for value and pick investments that are appropriate to their long-term goals. Selection can be time-consuming, but is is worth while. Ten medium to large companies are identified as offering a good value.

Tower Life Australia, a medium-sized company, was recognized in a survey as the top Australian life insurance company. The insurance companies were judged according to a point system based primarily on product categories. Financial strength and service were also evaluated to a lesser degree. In addition, Lumley was rated highest in the risk insurance sector, Tower in investment, and AMP in savings.
