Air-cooled condensers cut tower water plume
Article Abstract:
Ogden Energy Group Inc. uses an air-cooled condenser for the cooling tower of its Huntington, NY, plant. The company was concerned that a water-cooling tower could result in a large water plume. The air-cooled condenser reduces the plume and is more tolerable to the nearby community. The facility has steam jet air ejectors from Croll-Reynolds of Westfield, NJ. The ejector separates air and non-condensables from the exhaust of the turbine and air-cooled condenser. Installed on the same skid is a single-stage hogging air ejector to remove huge amounts of noncondensables from the system at start-up before the higher vacuum, lower capacity ejector takes over.
