Energy-efficient lighting: a slice of the market
Article Abstract:
A study conducted by the Northern Energy Efficiency Partnerships has revealed that the compact fluorescent light (CFL) market has substantially grown since 1996 due to three reasons. First, the CFL product line has grown noticeably to 24 products. Second, the introduction of dimmable CFLs proved the responsiveness of manufacturers to consumer requests. Third, CFL bulbs remained competitive enough to retain retail shelf space. However, CFLs have to address several disadvantages to gain a greater share in the market over regular incandescent bulbs.

Capital recovery for the regulated firm under certainty and regulatory uncertainty
Article Abstract:
A regulated firm's rate-of-return incentives in negotiations over cost recovery are analyzed. Optimal recovery plans concerning firm discretionary policy under certainty and uncertainty conditions are presented. FASB rules prevent firms from exercising front-loaded capital recovery programs under certainty conditions. However, the inclusion of regulatory uncertainty situations bridges the gap between FASB and firm plans for optimal recovery.
