Article Abstract:
An automated interactive trouble-reporting telephone system is an answer to the big volume of customer calls that electric utilities get when a power outage occurs. The system allows the call to get through and the customer can report the outage. Electric companies see these telephone answering systems as a means to improve customer service. They can receive up to 40,000 calls during emergencies and customers do not get a busy signal. Utility officials say that customers like the units and believe that it has improved customer service.
