Mathematical modelling of solar stills in Iran
Article Abstract:
Comments on the mathematical model of a solar still in Shiraz, Iran, are presented. The model, developed by Mowla and Karimi (1995), is criticized for its apparent inversion of symbols. Numerical errors in computations also lead to a significant overprediction of distillate production. The definition of efficiency as proposed by the model is misleading since its value would tend to infinity after sunset and would be zero at dawn.

Solar detoxification
Article Abstract:
Solar detoxification refers to solar-powered Advanced Oxidation Technologies (AOT) that treat and destroy organic pollutants in contaminated waters. Titanium dioxide is used as semiconductor to absorb solar radiation below 385nm, which is only 3% of the solar spectrum at the Earth's atmosphere. Solar detoxification would be enhanced if the absorption capacity of semiconductors is increased or if more catalysts are discovered.
