Article Abstract:

The growth in electricity demand is relentless and thus utilities continually plan to have new supply resource available to meet the needs of their service area's retail customers, their native load. State public utility commissions and the Federal Energy Regulator Commissions have come up with their different options but there are conflicts between the policies of these two commissions.

Seeking a sensible water policy

Two compliance options of Section 316(b) of the Clean Water Act were declared unlawful by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. The Environmental Protection Agency has been remanded by the courts to determine the best available technology for cooling water intake structures.
