Are violations of rights ever right?

Article Abstract:

The 'violation minimization' concept argues that there are several circumstances wherein an individual is allowed to violate constraints to prevent bigger violations. The constraints may be classified as 'self-defeating constraints' and 'Pareto-inferior constraints.' These concepts of nonviolation and inviolability are discussed extensively in the works of Thomas Nagel and Frances Kamm.

Philosophical intuitions and psychological theory

Article Abstract:

Philosophical thought experiments are being utilized by epistemologists and ethicists to uncover norms that are not revealed in naturally-occurring situations. A good example is Warren Quinn's Rescue Dilemmas wherein the 'Doctrine of Doing and Allowing' is expounded. This type of a thought experiment can only qualify as reasoning if it is subjected to standards of correctness.
