Bank holding company stock risk and the composition of bank asset portfolios
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the behavior of bank holding company stock returns and their relationship with portfolio composition and stock return risks. A modified arbitrage pricing theory model is applied to analyze bank portfolio impact of such bank stock risks. Results show that some bank assets significantly affect the bank's stock risk profile. The results imply the inclusion of noncredit risk in bank capital standards to capture capital risk levels accurately.

Kazakhstan's quandary
Article Abstract:
The likelihood for a true democratic government for Kazakhstan is not great in the foreseeable future. The region's strong nationalism, if tempered, could aid democratic development, but it looks like a hinderance in its current form. The animosity between Kazakhs and Russians is delaying the economic ties the country will need to succeed as a democracy. Other Kazakh barriers to democracy are discussed.
