The ephemeral genre and the end of literature
Article Abstract:
The state of literature in the late 1990s is greatly informed by two forces: technology and talent. Technological development of the 1990s is re-shaping and re-defining readership and literacy. These, turn, impact on literature and book publishing. From the perspective of those brought up in the tradition of reading, the emerging generation brought up in electronic media surroundings is illiterate. But from the perspective of that generation, anyone who do not understand electronics is illiterate. It seems that it is only at the hindsight of a future critic can this state be understood.

A canopy for connoisseurs
Article Abstract:
A storm's destruction of the trees in a KY neighborhood gave a community impetus to seek out unusual replacement trees, and ultimately led to a striking neighborhood arboretum. The 300-home community operates on a volunteer basis, but the town offered to pay 2/3 the cost and plant each tree. Initially ignorant of the differences among trees, the community befriended two local experts, Theodore Klein and Buddy Hubbuch, who guided them in identifying and understanding their options.
