Article Abstract:
The March 2005 'Tulip Revolution' that toppled President Askar Akeyev is often grouped with the color revolution in Georgia and Ukraine, but in many ways the Kyrgyz case was unique. Whereas the 'Rose' and 'Orange' Revolutions took place almost entirely in the respective capitals of Georgia and Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan's far-northern capital city of Bishkek became the focus of mobilization only after the country's leading second-tier cities had fallen to the opposition.
