Psychoanalytical teachings of the Talmud

Article Abstract:

The Talmud, a collection of commentaries on the Torah, can be used as a therapeutic tool. 'Passuks,' small statements extracted from the Torah, can be discussed by the analyst and the patient. Talmudic principles provide a framework for determining how to live ethically. Many of the qualities described in the Talmud, such as modesty and respect for others, should be incorporated in psychoanalysis. Three cases in which use of the Talmud helped patients are described.
