The attraction of Basingstoke, England, as a potential high-profile office location is blighted by the empty and vandalised Basing View building, which is the focus of the town's office sector. Around 40% of the town's available office space is located in Basing View. Much of Basingstoke's office stock is in need of refurbishment, with just half available for immediate use. Plans for the town's shopping centre include a new market, restaurants, extra parking spaces and 22,290 sq mt of new retail space.

The M4 corridor between London and Maidenhead is a popular area for large, multinational companies to base their operations. The strategic importance of the area and its road links to Heathrow Airport have attracted prestigious companies, including pharmaceutical firm Pharmacia and Upjohn, which has sited its new management centre in Windsor. Other M4 occupiers include Canadian conglomerate Seagram and telecommunications firm Nortel.

However, rents for modern buildings and design-and-build properties remain firm. A two-tier system is emerging in the secondhand market, marked by the emergence of pre-portal frames.
