Sarasota/Fort Meyers/Naples
Article Abstract:
Industrial development in the Sarasota/Fort Meyers/ Naples area of Florida is slow, with some of it being blocked by lawsuits or city councils unwilling to change zoning regulations. A new industrial park is however, scheduled to be built in the area. Although not much office space is under construction in the region, the office market is strong, and a high vacancy rate in some areas is due to the large amount of recent construction. Hotel construction is brisk, with new construction projects underway. The retail shopping center market in the region is slow in Naples, though it is brisker in Ft. Meyers, and Sarasota. Condominium development, which was slow in 1982, shows definite signs of picking up in 1984. The financing for the commercial and industrial development is uncertain and expensive, although plans are underway to issue revenue bonds which would be used to finance construction and development.
