Applying folklore in medical education
Article Abstract:
The purpose of the Diversity in Medicine project funded by the US Dept of Education is to develop a medical education curriculum that fully addresses the impact of demographic and multicultural factors upon patient health and the provision of medical care, and presents its material from the patient's perspective. The project investigates the clinical significance of diversity characteristics such as race, ethnicity and gender, and how such factors influence diagnosis, treatment and communication between patient and caregiver. Project researchers apply folklore theory and methods to achieve their goals.

Negotiating the planning process: applied folklore and organizational strategy
Article Abstract:
Folklorists must create a bridge between the purpose of scholarship and society's policy makers in order to apply folklore to the political realm. Folklorists must be viewed as other organizational professionals and must at times adopt the language of those professionals to further their interests.

Folklore figures in Spanish Galician Carnaval
Article Abstract:
The three-week celebration of the Carnaval festival in Galicia, Spain, is mark by uncharacteristic merrymaking activities involving symbolic figures and ritual. A papier-mache King represents the carnival; a scantily-dressed woman is designated as the Carnaval nymph; and a man dressed as a sardine are the main figures in this celebration.
