Cecil Hobbs (1907-1991)
Article Abstract:
Cecil Hobbs is a distinguished contributor to scholarship on Asia and to the development of Southeast Asian collections in American libraries. He served as field administrator of the American Baptist Mission Board and was a professor at Pierce Divinity College and Burma Theological Seminary. He wrote publications on the history and culture of Southeast Asia. He retired as Head of the Southeast Asia Section of the Orientalia Division of Library of Congress prior to his death on December 8, 1991. He was an awardee of the Meritorius Service Award an a Superior Service Award.

San Francisco development: a bridge to the future
Article Abstract:
Redevelopment activities and programs in San Francisco, CA are described and praised as a model for US urban revitalization efforts. Over 10 million square feet of development are under construction in San Francisco, including 5.5 million in office buildings, 2.67 million in hotels, 1.5 million in housing, and 1 million in retail stores. Specific projects and areas discussed include: Yerba Buena, Hunters Point, and Golden Gateway. The construction and-or redevelopment of major San Francisco landmarks is also addressed.

A New Awakening
Article Abstract:
The trend from largely domestic to international banking, which began to develop in the early 1970s, is explored. American banks have been very aggressive in the international banking field. Reasons why banks have continued to make unprofitable foreign loans is being caused by: developing-country debt crisis, stiffer capital ratios regulations and the deregulation of financial markets.
