Martin Bronfenbrenner: 1914-1997
Article Abstract:
Martin Bronfenbrenner was instrumental to the founding of the Asia Pacific Studies Institute where he served as the first director. The Pittsburgh, PA-born Bronfenner was also the Kenan Professor of Economics at Duke University where he taught after Michigan State and Carnegie Mellon University. He had a three year stint in Japan as a young language student and officer at the US Navy, and then much later spent seven years with the Aoyama Gakuin's School of International Politics, Economics, and Business in Tokyo. He died on Jun. 2, 1997.

An obituary of the Tai literature and language expert William J. Gedney who died in November 1999 is presented. His career as an academic and the large collection of Tai books which he collected are discussed.
