RJ bets mainly on the US

Rudolf Jelinek (RJ) (Vizovice, Czech Republic), spirits producer, wants to export 30% of its production in 1999 compared to 11% in 1998. The biggest part of the firm's 1999 exports should go to the US. The company supplies kosher vodka to the US Jewish community. RJ has no important competitor in the field on the US market. The company's proceeds from the sales of its products should increase by 80 mil Kc in 1999 compared to 164 mil Kc in 1998. Nearly 50% of the firm's total production was represented by plum brandy in 1998. Besides, RJ's products line includes vodka, cherry brandy and gin. RJ's economy resulted in a loss of 10.5 mil Kc in 1998.

Article Abstract:
The editor of the 'Journal of American Studies' looks back on how the journal has changed as his five year editorship comes to an end. Innovations include the 'State of the Art' and 'Notes and Comment' features and the increased use of special issues. The journal's growth in the past 25 years parallels increased British interest in US studies. Michael Heale will be the new Editor, with Richard Gray as Associate Editor.

When light speed isn't fast enough: creating superluminary supercomputers
Article Abstract:
Recent experiments in superluminal propagation indicate that a pulse of light can be made to travel faster than it would in a vacuum. Possible applications in supercomputing and quantum computing are discussed.
