In her novel 'To Kill a Mockingbird,' Harper Lee not only shows the division between blacks and whites, she also explores the division of social classes. The novel suggests that poor white 'trash' are responsible for racism, while the elite, like lawyer Atticus Finch, have risen above race hatred.
