Article Abstract:
The term 'globalization' in German studies is discussed in terms of theory or new contents as challenges to traditional scholarship that reveals its Western, capitalist and even imperialist biases, globalization within the disciplinary structures of the academy, discloses the politics of their own agency as knowledge producers. The new globalization shows a scrupulous attention to accountability in the local production of knowledge, German studies in the US threatens to recede into insignificance or insularity.

Reconceptualizing East German popular literature via the science fiction niche
Article Abstract:
The assumptions regarding the "state" and the "masses" as well as "high" and "low" cultures as interpreted by western academics, authors and cultural officials in East Gemany are examined. The close relationship between production and reception of science fiction in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) is discussed.
