French anthropology and the Durkheimians in colonial Indochina
Article Abstract:
The Durkheimian school of sociology emphasized the role of community and the transforming effect of revolution during the years of French domination in southeast Asia. The writings of Paul Mus on suicide show his concern with native territory as the central element in forming collective and individual identity.
