Article Abstract:
The Eighth Party Congress and elections to the Legislative Assembly, leading to the appointment of a new president, prime minister and cabinet were the two major events that took place in 2006 at Laos. Economic liberalization also continued in 2006, and Laos is also benefited by a favorable regional and international environment.

Bangladesh in 2006: Living in "interesting times"
Article Abstract:
The year 2006 was an "interesting" time which saw hectic political manipulations ahead of the general elections in 2007. The possible accommodation of transnational terrorists, an upswing in human rights violations, and evidence of diminishing religious freedom are raising doubts about the future of democracy in Bangladesh.

Laos in 2007: regional integration and international fallout
Article Abstract:
The article reviews the late globalization in land-locked Laos and its international relations in the year 2007. Laos's new infrastructure links it to its neighbors thus exploiting its ample natural riches and reinventing its sense of regional integration.
