The group-based binding pledge as a solution to public goods problems
Article Abstract:
Members of a group facing a social dilemma can choose to either maximize their personal interests or maximize their collective interests. However, everybody would be worse off if all members choose to maximize their personal interests. A special type of social dilemma is a public goods dilemma, wherein people must contribute resources to provide a public good. In such situations, a pledge to contribute is likely to elicit cooperation.

Local government in Scotland
Article Abstract:
The constitutional context in which local governments in Scotland operate is examined. The developments relating to the structure and powers of the local government since devolution in 1999 and transformed relations between the central government and local government in terms of greater autonomy enjoyed by the local government are discussed.

Pet heaven: all families have their traditions. Why not funerals for small animals?
Article Abstract:
A man relates how in his family, it is traditional for the whole family to ge together for a simple internment ceremony when a pet that die. They buried several hamsters, two guinea pigs, one cairn terrier, and many fish. The funerals are not morbid and the owner always makes a statement.
