Locating software reviews
Article Abstract:
Books, journals and electronic publications are sources for reviews of software for teaching French. The 'Foreign Language Software Database' is available on diskette from Panda Software. The French Review, CALICO and the Journal of the International Assn of Learning Laboratories publish software reviews. Other useful publications include a two-volume 'Computer Assisted Language Teaching Bibliography' by Conrad Sabourin and Elca Tarrab and 'Le Francais assiste par ordinateur des colleges et des universites du Canada' by Andre Bougaieff. Web sites and LISTSERVs provide additional sources for French software reviews.

Successful and less successful listeners of French: what are the strategy differences?
Article Abstract:
Think-aloud behavior habit patterns vary between successful and less successful foreign-language students who listen to French. The difference between these groups is not influenced by a simple strategy count, but depends on factors such as how deeply listeners interact with the text and approaches to the text. This study suggests that novice listeners rely largely on prior knowledge, while more skilled listeners create a solid conceptual framework relatively quickly.
