Richard Wright Award Address: Notes of another native son
Article Abstract:
The recipient of the Richard Wright Award refers to two books, "Black Boy" by Richard Wright and William Faulkner's "Mississippi", to convey his message that students should be taught to change the future in the manner that Wright and Faulkner did so as to cope with the history they were born into and reconcile themselves. It is imperative that they know the history they are inheriting so that they have the proper perspective to grapple with the problems and pressures of their native land.

A sketch of the history of Black English
Article Abstract:
The history of Black English is traced from the time the slaves came to the New World in 1620 and needed a language for communicating among themselves and most probably adopted Pidgin English. Evidence from the surviving texts of the speech of slaves shows that Pidgin English became the language of the masses in the northern states as well as in the South and by 1715 there was an African Pidgin English.
