Lunenburg Dutch, Pennsylvania Dutch, and the Use of "Dutch" for "German"
Article Abstract:
The Lunenburg Dutch are German settlers who arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia between 1749 and 1752. They were referred to in some records as Dutch, an archaic use of the word in which it meant German. Similarly the Germans from Pennsylvania who resettled in Ontario were of German origin.
