Article Abstract:
The three works for the study of politics and religion in contemporary Pakistan with emphasis on comparison with other South Asian countries and Muslim-majority states is reviewed. It is concluded that it is no longer sufficient to emphasise the diverse cultural variations important in Pakistan that impact on the complex form taken by the Islamic tradition in Pakistan or to conceptualise Pakistan as dominated and divided by competing Islamic sectarian identities and doctrines.
