Myanmar in 1992: plus ca change...?
Article Abstract:
Efforts of Myanmar's military regime to appear democratic despite its repressive management of domestic affairs became more apparent in 1992. The State Law and Order Restoration Council called for liberalization and reorganization in the government. It also announced the promulgation of a new constitution which advocates of democracy considered another devious scheme to win the support of its citizens and create a better image in the international scene. At present, it still hard to determine whether the military will be able to maintain its political authority or a revolution is in the offing.

Myanmar in 1994: new dragon or still dragging?
Article Abstract:
Myanmar's economy performed creditably well in 1994 as the ruling junta began implementing its program to transform the country's state-planned economy to a free market one. Economic indicators improved tremendously while foreign investments poured into the country in record amounts. However, the government's heavy-handed response to its critics may lead to the cancellation of international aid to Myanmar. Closer ties with Thailand and China were also fostered by the government.

Tensions in South Korean political parties in transition: From entourage to ideology?
Article Abstract:
Political parties in South Korea, most of which were earlier encouraged by leaders to function as followers for them to win presidential elections, are changing into ideology-based groups. This trend of transition from entourage to ideology is symbolized by the ruling party's left-wing elites and a labor party, indicating an influence on both political development in the Republic of Korea (ROK) and its relationship with the United States.
