Nationalist army officers during the Sino-Japanese War, 1937-1945
Article Abstract:
Chinese Nationalist army generals during the 1937-1945 War of Resistance gradually improved their capacity for command, while less competent middle- and lower-level officer numbers increased. Nationalist generals before the war tended not to have graduated from the Whampoa Military Academy, which offered training in modern warfare local military schools lacked, but this trend reversed by 1947. The policy of promoting soldiers who fought well to officer rank tended to increase the number of officers without thorough military preparation.
