Quetzalcoatl on the border? Mestizo water serpent beliefs of the Pimeria Alta
Article Abstract:
Inhabitants of the Pimeria Alta region of Sonora, Mexico, attest to a belief in 'la corua,' a large snake that inhabits and protects springs of water. If the corua is killed, the spring dries up. Snakes are also associated with rainstorms and floods. The association between snakes and water may be derived from the Aztec deity Quetzalcoatl, a plumed serpent connected with water. The belief shows links between Mexican and Indian cultures of the region and also reflects something of the fragility of the local water supply.

"O My Daughter!": "Die schone Judin" and "Der neue Jude" in Hermann Sinsheimer's 'Maria Nunnez'
Article Abstract:
Hermann Sinsheimer's historical novel "Maria Nunnez," published in 1934, underscores the timeless issue of Jewish identity and gender specifics through the centuries. Sinsheimer draws on the sensual image of the beauteous Jewess who flees Lisbon in 1597 dressed as a boy but encourages Jewish empowerment by crafting strong men and women characters. The undercurrents of secret identities and gender conflict mirror the confusions Jews in Germany must have felt during the precariously anti-semitic 1930s.

Article Abstract:
The benefits of teleworking to a business include improved productivity, staff retention and reduced office space requirements. However, businesses should consider a number of issues before introducing this practice. Considerations include security issues, health and safety, changes in methods of monitoring productivity, and the particular problems faced by staff working alone. A business might also consider a trial of teleworking, and consulting a teleworking association for advice.
