Tahar Djaout: paysage metaphorique de l'Algerie
Article Abstract:
Tahar Djaout was an Algerian novelist and journalist who wrote in French. He was born in 1954 and assassinated in 1993. The Algerian village is in his work the existential place where characters find nourishment which sustains them in confronting the problems of the rest of the country. Djaout's sense of place reveals the essence of Algeria and the Algerians. Novels discussed include 'Les Chercheurs d'os,' 'L'Exproprie,' 'L'Invention du desert,' and 'Les Vigiles.'
