The Maoist legacy and environmental implementation in China: the case of Xiamen's Yun Dang Lake
Article Abstract:
The 'clean-up' law in China is considered as an environmental legacy of former state official Mao Zedong. His instruction remains as local and municipal governments continue to act as active agents of the central administration in state-led development programs. Xiamen's waste-laden Yun Dang Lake has passed the sanitary measures designed and implemented by the provincial authorities. However, certain problems remain that make the successful implementation a difficult proposition.
