"I wish you a land": Hawai'i short story cycles and aloha 'aina
Article Abstract:
Issues concerning the manner in which a geographical place defines the identity of third-generation Hawaiian writers are examined, focusing on a critical approach to "Volcano: A Memoir of Hawai'i," by Garret Hongo; "Talking to the Dead," by Sylvia Watanabe, and "Wild Meat and the Bully Burgers," by Lois-Ann Yamanaka. Topics include communal continuity, belonging, love of the land, and family relationships.
