Article Abstract:
The ongoing United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone is examined to determine the trajectory and impediments to effective United Nations (UN) peace operations in Africa. It is suggested that the UN abandon its cookie-cutter approach and consider transforming its traditional peacekeeping into peacemaking operations.
