A hit on tour, but will we ever learn to love Prince Charles?
Article Abstract:
Prince Charles's very successful tour of South Africa comes after a period during which his popularity seemed to be waning very rapidly. Some observers believe that the success of his tour of South Africa can be attributed to his new, relaxed image. However, the Prince himself has stressed that he has not deliberately adopted a new approach and that he cannot explain his warmer reception. It certainly seems that he has become more aware of the power of image since the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and possibly of the need to modernize his own image.

Chinese threat to silence the sparrows: foreign maids fear their livelihoods will be taken away
Article Abstract:
There are an estimated 140,000 Filipina domestic helpers currently working in Hong Kong, out of a population of 6.2 million. They play a key role in the economy of the Philippines, sending home a large proportion of their wages. These helpers, most of whom are women, are now very concerned about what will happen to them when Hong Kong reverts to Chinese sovereignty. They have been reassured by Tung Chee-hwa, Hong Kong's chief executive-designate, that they will still be welcome, but fear that many families will switch to Chinese-speaking maids.

You know you love it ...
Article Abstract:
Circulation of 'Loaded,' which promotes itself as the magazine for men 'who should know better,' has now reached 96,000. It seems to be benefiting from a shift away from New Man and a return to a fascination with the juvenile, irreverent and sexual. It is unashamedly chauvinistic, containing pictures of women in skimpy clothing and many articles about football, music and drinking. It believes that it has been particularly successful because it has resisted the trend towards political correctness.
