A little of what you fancy

Article Abstract:

The National Gallery in London, England, is currently exhibiting six paintings by Italian artist Orazio Gentileschi, who worked for the court of Charles I in the UK in the two decades before his death in 1639. These works include 'David Slaying Goliath' (1605-1608). The National Gallery is also staging an even smaller exhibition of pictures by old Flemish master Rogier van der Weyden. This exhibition is centred on the reuniting of the 'Magdalene Reading' with two other fragments of the altarpiece to which it originally belonged.

Is the writing on the wall?

Article Abstract:

The Whitechapel Art Gallery in London, England, has linked with the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art to stage an exhibition entitled 'Examining Pictures.' This exhibition, which covers 60 paintings by 60 artists from Europe and North America, shows alternative tendencies in painting. It appears that the exhibition is mainly aimed at artists and art students, as it does not seek to explain itself. It can be seen as a manifesto exhibition, presenting instances and examples rather than individual works.
