Article Abstract:
Designer Lucienne Day graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1943 and was famous for her Calyx fabric design in 1951. She was the first British designer to win the International Design Award of the American Institute of Decorators in 1952. She designed wallpapers for Crown and abstract fabrics for Heals. She was made a Royal Designer for Industry in 1962. In the 1990s, she does one-off design with silk mosaics. These are usually about 6ft by 4ft and consist of 6,000 patches.

Charles Saatchi is the most committed collector of contemporary art in the UK at present, but remains extremely secretive about this activities in this area. He has around 1,000 artworks, and sometimes buys up entire shows. However, he is not willing to become personally involved with the artists concerned, and does not buy in order to make a profit.
