Alas, poor Peter, lost and Goon
Article Abstract:
The influence and talents of comic actor Peter Sellers are soon to be analysed in a three-part 'Arena' programme on BBC2. Most observers believe that he was extremely talented, but some claim that he was best suited for radio comedy and never really performed at his best in films. Particularly after 1964, his films were only mediocre in quality, and some observers believe that this was the result of an incompatibility between his comedy and films as a medium. The 'Arena' programme focuses on the reasons behind Sellers's portrayal of himself as a human chameleon.

Utter abandonment
Article Abstract:
Screaming is the earliest and most urgent form of human expression. It represents a range of emotions. Watching or hearing others scream creates power through recollections of babyhood. Screams are requests for help. Some films show people unable to scream for various reasons, placing them in a social vacuum. Stephen King suggests that comedy films produce similar shrieks to horror films. Nervous laughter often follows a scream induced by a horror film.

In the name of Mammon and the Muse
Article Abstract:
The relationship between money and art has always been controversial, especially as most art cannot be analysed in terms of a labour theory of value. Money insipires art, makes institutions possible and determines its styles, and the two can never be separated. This is clearly the case with painting, but there are examples of it in the case of all other arts too.
