As a dumped wife, I am a firm believer in the family

Article Abstract:

The UK government's consultation paper on families presents some policies with which the vast majority of people will not be able to find fault, such as supporting families trapped in poverty. However, it also addresses more controversial issues, and is particularly valuable because it recognizes human frailty and does not show blind self-confidence about difficult subjects. It aims to create a better life for ordinary people, especially children, and encourages society to think about how it treats people as partners, parents and members of society.

White supremacy in the newsroom

Article Abstract:

There are still very few black or Asian journalists with leading UK newspapers, and no editor, regular commentator or critic is from either of these groups. Some observers believe that the industry is not prejudiced against non-whites, and that ethnic minorities simply do not apply for jobs. Personnel directors claim that they recruit and promote on merit, but critics point out that blacks and Asians seem to be able to do well on television, but are still largely excluded from printed journalism.
