Buyers flock to the dock

Article Abstract:

The property market in the Docklands area of London, England, has picked up a great deal since early 1996. Offers are being made on properties which have been for sale for a long time, and developers are seeing very strong interest in their stock. A survey of major central London residential developments indicates that the supply of Docklands property will dry up very quickly if the present rate of take-up continues. Developments which are currently at the planning stage will represent only two-three years' supply.

Converting the heritage watchdog

Article Abstract:

Some UK property developers believe that English Heritage, which advises the government on all aspects of historic buildings and is involved in changes to Grade I and Grade II listed buildings, has become too powerful. They are willing to preserve the character of historic buildings, but feel that English Heritage is placing too much emphasis on unnecessary detail. English Heritage argues that developers do not always realize the importance of the buildings they are dealing with.

How to play the property game

Article Abstract:

Those who are considering selling their home should obtain three or four valuations. They should question potential estate agents about issues including how many properties of a similar kind they have sold recently. When looking for a property to purchase, it is advisable to view around six immediately in the appropriate price range, allowing comparisons to be made. It is important to have made the necessary financial arrangements before making an offer to buy.
