Capitalism and the Atlantic divide nations of the wealthy West

Article Abstract:

European countries now do not necessarily agree with the US about how free markets should be structured and what the role of the state should be in a capitalism economy. This conflict of views has been clear that the economic summit of world leaders in Denver, CO, where European leaders have rejected the assumption that they should automatically follow the US model of economic development. The US is now being forced to recognize that cultural differences and national views still play a significant role in approaches to economic policy.

Last ditch reprieve for Clinton...

Article Abstract:

Congressional leaders have agreed to postpone the debate on the impeachment of President Bill Clinton scheduled to take place on Dec 17, 1998, because of growing tension in relations with Iraq. Clinton faces a very difficult situation as more so-called 'moderate' Republicans express their support for impeachment. However, the postponement of the debate on impeachment may act in his favour, allowing a compromise to be reached. Clinton is still popular with ordinary people, but there is a growing belief that he should resign.

The US economic and social model is showing signs of being under severe pressure. In contrast, the European model has some potential, and the 21st century may prove to belong to Europe, rather than the US.
