Classics from the James gang

Article Abstract:

The exhibition entitled 'A Surreal Life: Edward James' currently being held at Brighton Museum and Art Gallery, Brighton, England, shows many of the paintings and treasures with which poet Edward James, who died in 1984, surrounded himself. The exhibition is particularly interesting for those interested in Dali, as it includes classics such as the 'Metamorphosis of Narcissus.' An exhibition of Surrealist works on paper is being held at Hove Museum and Art Gallery, Hove, England. This includes an imaginary self-portrait by George Grosz and two mixed media drawings by Sam Haile.

There was this Jew ...

Article Abstract:

Humour can play a key role in helping people who have been deeply affected by experiences in earlier life, according to Jewish comedian Deb Filler. She became aware at an early age that humour could help her father, who suffered terrible experiences during the Holocaust, and later realized that she would never have a successful career as a straight actress. She has developed a show which makes fun of the characteristics of many different members of her extended family.

Heart of darkness

Article Abstract:

An exhibition currently being held at the Pavillon des Arts in Paris, France, looks at books of poetry, magazines and around 150 works of art by a range of surrealists. Some of the works are rather bizarre, and indeed some even go as far as being violent and disturbing. However, others show more tender images and give an interesting insight into the private lives of surrealists. The best part of the exhibition is a selection of photographs by Man Ray.
