Congo wealth lures Africa's power-players
Article Abstract:
The mineral wealth of the Democratic Republic of Congo has become the source of significant tension in the region. Congo has attracted attention from Chad, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Angola, all of which have been willing to send soldiers to die there, as well as from Rwanda and Uganda. In particular, a power struggle has emerged between Laurent Kabila, the country's President, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni. The strong desire to control Congo's mineral wealth could make it impossible for the country to become economically and socially stable.

Consumers warm to new services
Article Abstract:
In 1992 North American cable television and telephone companies finance almost 90% of British cable television. British law requires cable television systems to be built underground, taking up 80% of the costs. About 1.4 million people have the opportunity to subscribe to the service and 300,000 subscribers watch 35 channels. The Telecommunications Review in spring 1992 allowed telephone services to be provided by cable operators bringing potential extra revenue.
