Finally, the importance of being Imran
Article Abstract:
Imran Khan captained the Pakistan cricket team to beat England in the final of the world cup and, by winning, had raised a considerable amount of money for a cancer hospital being built in memory of his mother. Not only is he a great player, he is very unusual in having great social and environmental commitment. With the Pakistan team composed of a mixture of Muslims and Hindhus, with all the latent jealousies and anarchy, his being a Pathan enables him to be an outstanding leader and captain.

And what, inquired M'Lud, is Linford's lunch box?
Article Abstract:
Former world and Olympic sprint champion Linford Christie is bringing a libel action against journalist John McVicar. The case relates to a 1995 article by McVicar which claimed Christie used performance-enhancing drugs. McVicar claims that Christie has been antagonistic towards journalists because they have suspected him of using these drugs. He also claims that rate at which Christie moved up the world sprint rankings between 1985 and 1986 was very suspicious.

Imran vs Beefy: more about class than cricket
Article Abstract:
The libel case brought by Ian Botham and Allan Lamb, UK cricket players, against Imram Khan, former Pakistani cricket player, has attracted a lot of attention, with people queueing up for a place in the court. The case is based not on cricket or racism, but on class. Botham wants Khan, whom he considers a condescending man from the Oxford upper class, to be punished for making remarks about down-to-earth British cricketers.
